About The Animal Humane Society
The Animal Humane Society is a private non-profit organization. The organization relies solely on private donations, merchandise sales and adoption fees since they do not receive federal, state or government funding. Their mission is “to engage the hearts, hands and minds of the community to help animals.”
The Humane Society is located in the Upper Midwest and has campuses at the following locations:
- Buffalo
- Coon Rapids
- Golden Valley
- St. Paul
- Woodbury
The hours of operations are Monday through Friday from 10 to 6 for adoptions and 12 to 8 for surrenders, Saturday from 10 to 6, and Sunday from 11 to 5.
They serve local communities and provide programs and services to serve the various stages of an animal’s life.
The programs and services include:
- Adoption and surrender
- Outreach
- Rescue
- Pet Training
- Boarding
In addition, the Humane Society provides services to help you deal with the loss of your pet. They offer euthanasia and cremation services along with support groups and places to lay your pet to rest.
The Humane Society offers programs to local schools. There are options such as classroom visits or shelter tours. In addition, there are several youth programs such as summer camps, birthday parties and even programs to earn scout badges.
The AnSWER Program
The AnSWER Program (Animal Surrender with Evaluation Report) is available for those surrendering an animal and wanting to know if the animal passed the placement evaluation. There is an option to reclaim the animal if it is unable to be placed for adoption. To take part in the AnSWER program there is a non-refundable fee of $75 and a one-time report given on the animal. If the animal is unable to placed then the owner will be able to reclaim it within 24 hours.
Animal Requirements
The Humane Society accepts almost any type of animal. They have an open admission policy meaning that they accept any animal regardless of health, age, breed or temperament.
Once an animal is brought to the shelter they receive an exam, vaccines and any necessary medical treatment. In addition, they are assessed and micro chipped. If not already done they are spayed or neutered.
There are no time limits that regulate how long the animals are at the shelters. As long as the animal remains in good health and temperament, it is available until it is adopted. The Humane Society is a no-kill shelter.
Adoptable Pets
Visit the adoptable animals section of the website for a listing of adoptable pets. There are listings of dogs, cats and other small animals along with a photo of the animal and a brief description.
