The above list is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the charities that are out there. There are several more places that you can look online:

  • The definitive list for who is under the 501(c)(3) and (c)(4) tax code can be found where else than at the IRS. Publication 78 is in pdf format.
  • Charity Navigator is a charity watchdog group that helps people get the most charity for their dollar.
  • The Foundation Center has everything you could ever want to know about grant making foundations and non profits.
  • Want to check out a nonprofit organization? One place to start is the Better Business Bureau which lists all nonprofits that meet their criteria.
  • A to Z Charity Listing from Charity Watch lists just about everything out there and provides links to articles when applicable.

I volunteer for the 100 Club of Contra Costa County in CA; this organization comes to the immediate aid of the spouse and childres whose family members were killed in the line of duty. How would we go about adding this organization to your list? Thank you, Maggie
