Show your school spirit!

Show your pride with a school spirit fundraiser. Any school group can plan a fundraiser to help raise money for their school. From cheerleaders to sports teams, from clubs to parent groups, fundraisers are a great way to support your school while making money. Showing school spirit is important since it can help with students' morale and get them excited and involved in a worthy project.

Types of Fundraisers

Once you have decided that you want to do a fundraiser in support of your school, the next step is deciding on what type of fundraiser you want to do. There are many possibilities from simple to complex. Some ideas include:

Selling a Product

This can be anything from tee shirts, hats to sweatshirts. Be sure that the item has your school logo or mascot on it to boost everyone's school spirit. Some other spirit items

  • Antenna balls
  • Clappers
  • Frisbees
  • Pom poms
  • Yard signs
  • Mouse pads

Another item that is popular to sell is flowers. Hold an in-school sale during Valentine's Day. You can even get flowers such as carnations in your school's colors to sell.

Hoagie sales are another great way to raise money. Groups can take orders ahead of time and have a day designated that the hoagies will be made and delivered.

Car Wash

Who doesn't have a vehicle that needs washing? A car wash is a great way to raise money for your school group while having a fun day outdoors with your friends. Car washes can be held at any large parking lot. Be sure to get permission from the lot owner before you hold your car wash. To get started, all you will need is a bucket of soap, a hose and a bunch of dirty cars! Advertise the car wash and have students stand out front holding signs to attract potential customers.

You can hold a raffle and sell 50/50 raffle tickets. Your only cost will be the printing of the tickets. The grand prize is half of the total amount of money raised from the raffle. The other half is your profit. Tickets can be sold by parents, students and faculty.

Secure donations from local businesses and provide attendees with a chance to bid on them. You can host a silent auction, a live auction, or an event that includes both silent and live bidding opportunities. Typically, high dollar value items will bring in the largest sums when offered via a live auction, while smaller ticket donations are well suited for inclusion in a silent auction.

Special Events

A one-time event is another great fundraiser. There are many events that you can do to raise school spirit and money all at the same time. Some fun ideas for events include:

  • Night at the races
  • Spaghetti dinner
  • Rummage sale

Have Fun While Raising Money

Be well organized and plan your fundraiser in advance. There are many things to keep in mind since you will be representing your school and want to make a good impression not only for yourself but for your group and school. If you are asking for donations always be sure to tell the person who you are and what school you are affiliated with. If possible, wear your uniform or an item of clothing with your school's name or logo on it. Always keep good records of who you are selling to and how much money you have collected. The more organized you are, the better. Remember what you are raising money for and be enthusiastic. It is a school spirit fundraiser, after all, and you want to have fun and show your school pride.
