World Wildlife Foundation
From LoveToKnow Charity
Endangered animals are the main concern of the World Wildlife Foundation. Their efforts center around not only saving animals but conserving the land that live on.
Who is The World Wildlife Foundation
The World Wildlife Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to save endangered animals and to keep them safe. Yearly or as necessary, the Foundation presents a list of 100 endangered species that they deem to be in need of help.
Since they are an animal charity, they rely on the support and donations of individuals who believe in their cause. They invite other animal charities to join them in supporting endangered animals as well.
The Foundation purchases conservation land in Patagonia (Chile and Argentina) to preserve the endangered wildlife in that region including:
- Pumas
- Rhea
- Rare deer species
- Eagles
- Condors
- Patagonian foxes
- Pygmy owls
Programs of the Foundation
The Foundation's main worry is endangered species. They address their solution to protecting the animals through their two existing programs.
Land Programs
The Foundation raises money to buy land for conservation and preserve the bio diversity habitats for the animals. They research a wide range of projects in strategic locations throughout the World and they also work closely with local conservation and animal charities to create solutions to the problems threatening the endangered animals of the area.
Compensation Programs
The Foundation meets with local landowners for several reasons:
- Convince them to join the mission of the Foundation
- Prevent the shooting or trapping of endangered animals that threaten the local livestock.
In return for the help of the landowners they are given financial compensation when the endangered animals kill livestock as prey.
Partner Organizations
The Foundation has several partner organizations who share in their mission of protecting animals. The partners include:
- PETA - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals
- Save the Rhino International
- American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign
How To Help
There are several ways to support the World Wildlife Foundation. Choose the one that best matches your particular situation and desire.
Donate Money
The Foundation relies on donations from both individuals and organizations in order to provide safe breeding grounds for the endangered species. They use monetary donations to help with the purchase of land and also for compensating landowners in return for not killing endangered animals that have killed their livestock. You can download a bequest form online to make your donation.
Name a Wildlife Park
What better way to memorialize that someone special than by naming a wildlife park after a member of your family or in your own name. You can donate money now, or leave it in your will. Make an offer to have a lake or a river, a forest or even a wildlife park named after a loved one.
Form an Online Action Campaign
Beside raising money, the Foundation also wants to raise awareness of the plight of endangered animals. They want to educate the local population about the effects they are having on their wildlife and about how they can help to protect it and help it flourish again. They also want people to be aware that once endangered animals are gone, they are gone from the whole world. You can join the Foundation, subscribe, or create a group or an online community to help them educate others.
